My Lord, dispose me that I may give thanks for the bounty that You have bestowed upon me and my parents, and dispose me that I may do righteous deeds that would please You, and also make my descendants righteous. I repent to You, and I am one of those who surrender themselves to You.
This dua is from Quran 46:15, example of a man is given who reaches maturity and this man is grateful to his parents and to Allah, he is strong and established but he does not forget where he came from, and this man asks Allah to make him grateful for favors on him and on his parents and repents and also ask good for his children. Allah subhanahuwa taala says in next verse that “Those are the ones from whom We will accept the best of what they did and overlook their misdeeds, [their being] among the companions of Paradise. [That is] the promise of truth which they had been promised” |
Almost exactly similar dua is made by sulayman alehis salam (quran 27:19) with exception of dua for children since he had no heir, when he realizes the power Allah has given him, that he can understand the language of animals … he did not get proud at that moment but he asked Allah that He makes him a grateful servant of God. |
